Anybody ever ripped from Spotify? Any good apps for that?

I have a ton of projects around the house. One of my next ones is to configure a way to record some streaming audio. I know there is some software out there for the Mac that lets you capture to a file whatever is audio is playing on the computer, and I’m sure that there must be a Windows equivalent.
I was thinking of using an external DVD recorder to capture 8 hours of audio onto a disc. The problem seemed to be that the recorder won’t record without a video signal, so the trick is to send a dummy signal, along with the audio, to make the recording. As it happens, I have a test pattern generator with a composite output that should be perfect for this, and will just use the audio output from the computer. When it’s done I can import and edit, or just let it play as a DVD.
These days I rip my music from YouTube. I’ve got an app that lets me download videos or just the audio, and makes it a painless process. I think I paid $10 for it and it’s worth every penny.

I've used SpotiDL in the past with mixed success. It got some things wrong and I'm not sure where it was getting them from. Overall cant recommend

If you’re willing to record while it’s playing, there are a ton of apps that will just listen to audio playing and record it. I use Cinch Recorder to grab YouTube audio, it seems to do the job okay.

So you can rip $ the artist earns per stream out of their pocket or is there a deeper game I’m missing?

If you want to pirate music, deezloader is the easiest method. Pretty good interface, and it allows you to choose the download quality so you can get 320kbps MP3 or FLAC files.

I’ve used a plug-in for firefox that recorded audio files from youtube and the like, not sure if it would work with spotify since I’ve never used it. Video download helper it was called, has an icon that looks like three different colored balls. It was handy when people put songs on youtube that just had a still picture as the video, not sure if they still do that as I mostly use pandora now.

You do know how easy Spot ify make it to store a considerable amount of music on any device for offline playback? Complete nonissue unrelated to what he is asking for help in accomplishing.

So it’s almost like they are asking you to take their valueless work!

I wanted to share a few songs from an artist I discovered with my brother-in-law who does not use Spotify.

Ok, well there are better ways to go about that.
